What to do:
When asking students to plan, ask them to complete this activity called roots and fruits.
I have used this many times; for example, my students have used this activity when planning an active campaign/project. I have also used this when looking at an arguments/characters/economies/countries etc.
The students should draw out a tree. In the different sections of the tree they should write the following...
- Roots-
E.G:
- what are the core problems
- what are the reasons
- what is restricting your project
- what is holding you back
- who has caused problems before
- Bark-
E.G:
- what is your problem/issue you want to change
- who/what is your main target
- what is the main thing you should do
- name of your character
- Branches-
E.G:
- who can help/decision makers
- what arguments are there
- where could your project go
- family/links to the character
- Fruits-
E.G:
- what would a good outcome look like
- what is the result of a successful outcome- link fruit to the specific branch?
- how have relationships developed and with who
- Campaigning methods
